Going Green in 2014
Hi ,
I was looking for something to hold me over during lunch today as I was going to get my hair cut during my lunch break. I could make a lunch of cold chicken and creamed cauliflower and broccoli, but I would only have a couple minutes to eat it. Rushing my food causes it to sit heavy on my system as it does not digest well, so I wanted something lighter to sustain me.
I frequently have a protein shake in the late morning; my digestive system does not really wake up until about 10:30. But for lunch I generally like a little more protein and a lot more vegetables. A green smoothie was sounding like just what was needed. The problem is green smoothies I have tasted in the past were terrible. They taste like drinking grass clippings. So the challenge is to make a green smoothie with plenty of protein that doesn't taste like my lawnmower.

The first step was to use about a third of a cup of coconut milk to make the smoothie smooth and creamy. Protein powders tend to stick in your throat without a little creaminess to move them along. I added 3 cups of purified water to the coconut milk and mixed it up in the blender. Next, I grabbed about 3 packed cups of a mixture of baby kale, spinach, and chard. This is the secret - baby greens are not nearly as bitter or grassy tasting as their grownup counterparts. I smashed this into the blender and turned it on high until everything was smooth.

Protein was next, so I used a scoop of Clearvite protein powder and a scoop of a new protein amino acid blend called Proteinvite. This balances the protein into a perfectly digested and utilized ratio of amino acids. Just as easily you could add 4 ounces of cooked chicken or turkey breast instead of expensive protein powders. This may sound strange, but you will be amazed how well the meat disappears into the smoothie. For sweetness I added 2 teaspoons of my 8X sugar replacement and 1 tablespoon of vegetable glycerin. The glycerin is used by my body to carry nutrients into my cells. For a little flavor I added a couple teaspoons of vanilla. I also boost the nutrition with our liquid vitamin D.

Another round of blending and the final product was ready. It looks very green and very healthy. All those raw leafy greens are just chock full of phytonutrients and other good stuff. Plus having the blender break down the cell walls makes the nutrients available to me. Too often the nutrients in plant foods never get into us because we don't have the enzymes necessary to break open the cell walls to let them out. Chewing breaks down 10 to 20% of the walls but the rest just pass on through.

The final taste test... delicious. It is possibly a little too sweet, but otherwise quite tasty. I think I have become a convert to going green for 2014 - green smoothies!
Take care and enjoy,
David

Happy Gut Foods Ease Asthma
-
Lung cells and gut cells are the same type of cell and new evidence shows that foods that help out the gut also help out the lungs. High fiber foods that support the growth of good intestinal bacteria end up helping lung function. The right high fiber foods are turned into short-chain fatty acids by the good bacteria and absorbed into the blood. These fatty acids act as a signal to the immune system to be more resistant to irritation. This irritation is what triggers asthma. The type of fiber needed are the soluble fibers found in vegetables and fruits, not the insoluble fibers found in most grains.

Vitamin E helps Alzheimer's
2000 IU of d-alpha tocopherol vitamin E has been found to slow down the progression of Alzheimer's in patients with both sever and mild to moderate symptoms. Further studies find that all 8 forms of vitamin E support memory in differing ways so a total E complex is probably better than just the d-alpha form.

Amazon delivers its biggest box
This is one of those "a picture is worth a thousand words" moments. Amazon is delivering a new Nissan car to someone. It is a publicity stunt as Amazon is not permitted to actually sell cars, but the picture is great.

Our address is 9725 Fair Oaks Blvd.
Finding
the new location is very easy. Coming from highway 50 up Sunrise Blvd,
you turn left and go up a block. We are on the right hand side - the
building just past the Subway Sandwich shop. If you are coming down
Sunrise from the Mall area then just turn right on Fair Oaks Blvd and up
a block on the right.
If you are coming from the Roseville area you could come down Sunrise Blvd, but that is a long trek. It is probably shorter time wise to come down Auburn Blvd - San Juan Ave like you have been for the Sunset
office, but instead of turning left at Sunset, keep going straight 3
more lights to Fair Oaks Blvd and turn left. Go down 2 lights to New York Ave, go through the intersection, and immediately turn into the turn lane once the center divider ends. We are on the left.
