Reversing Aging

 Hi ,

Many years ago it was noticed that the French seem to break all the dietary rules we have been told all our lives and yet they are much healthier.  They eat four times as much butter, three times as much pork, 60% more cheese, drink lots of wine, and eat fat and cream-filled pastries and yet they have one quarter the incidence of heart attacks.  Only 8% of French are overweight compared to 50% of Americans.  What is the deal here?  How can they eat all the foods we have been told will kill us and yet end up so much healthier?  This curiosity was dubbed "the French paradox."

There are many reasons why The "French paradox" works, and all of them are good signposts towards a healthier life for us.  Number one on the list is that while the French eat all this high fat food, the fats they are eating are healthy saturated fats, and not the toxic vegetable oils pushed on us here in the states, or the poison, hormone, and antibiotic laden factory farmed animal fats.  The next big reason they are healthier is that while they are eating these foods, overall they eat less than we do.  They eat smaller portions and consume them slowly - fast food is considered disgusting.  The French believe in freshly cooked food prepared from scratch and eaten slowly and with appreciation.

Learning how to relax and enjoy the small things in life makes you live longer and healthier.  This is not just philosophy, but actually proven genetically.  A slower more appreciative lifestyle lengthens the time clocks on your genes that determine how long your cells can live and regenerate.

We American's, however, are in love with the idea of the miracle pill that will fix everything without us having to change our lifestyle one bit.  Because of that we researched the "French paradox" and decided that there was a miracle drug found in the red French wine that was responsible for the health benefits to the French lifestyle.  That miracle drug was a polyphenol antioxidant called resveratrol.  We extracted it and refined it and tested it.  It seemed to show that you could get the life prolonging health benefits of a low calorie diet lifestyle without having to do the whole low calorie thing.

In fact the latest study I found on resveratrol claims to have found the universal mechanism for activating the anti-aging pathway in humans - a pathway stimulated by resveratrol.  Currently huge amounts of dollars are being poured into developing a patent drug version of resveratrol to fight aging.  Once that is created, it is expected to be worth billions of dollars in sales each year.  Do they really expect us to believe that their patent version is going to be better than the form nature has already made for us?

So although the French lifestyle is largely responsible for their better health, we are finding that resveratrol in doses equal to consuming about a thousand bottles of wine a day, does have promise as a miracle pill for fighting aging.  The resveratrol goes into the heart of our cells and revs up our energy factories - the mitochondria.  Normally our energy factories run down as we age, robbing us of the energy we need to stay young.  Mice on resveratrol have twice the endurance and are relatively immune from effects of obesity and aging.

Some concern has been voiced over taking resveratrol orally because even though it is well absorbed, the liver quickly metabolizes it and breaks it down.  Fortunately brand new research from the University of Leichester has found that the cells take in the breakdown products from the liver and reassembles it back into resveratrol inside the cells.  So taking resveratrol by mouth is just fine.

I first became aquatinted with resveratrol when I began studying brain inflammation disorders.  Resveratrol does a marvelous job of quieting down brain inflammation.  It also decreases the buildup of brain plaque that is responsible for Alzheimer's.  Personally every morning I use a liquid preparation of resveratrol and one of curcumin (Resvero-Active and Tumero-Active) to keep my brain happy and functioning.  The anti-inflammatory properties have also been used to decrease arthritis pain and protect the joint cartilage.

Resveratrol is a powerful anti-oxidant that has also been found to have potent anti-cancer properties for several types of cancer.  This is particularly true for cancers that can come into direct contact with the resveratrol such as colon cancers or skin cancers.  Its anti-oxidant properties are so good that it has been found to protect the skin from sun damage, which is a type of radiation induced oxidation.

Resveratrol has also been found to have anti-diabetic effects by increasing insulin sensitivity and decreasing sugar highs after eating in overweight folks.  This says it is reversing the insulin resistance of type 2 diabetes.

If that is not enough amazement for one substance, resveratrol inhibits herpes simplex virus, cytomegalovirus, certain influenza viruses, and the herpes zoster virus that causes shingles.  The list keeps going on and on.  If you are like me you are probably wondering how you have managed to survive this long without your daily dose of Resveratrol.

Modern resveratrol no longer is derived from French red wine, but from a plant known as the Japanese Knotweed.  The concentration of the resveratrol in the roots of the knotweed is hundreds of times higher than from wine.  If you are looking for the top of the line resveratrol supplement then I would go with the Resvero-Active liquid we have in the office.  It has a pleasant pina colada flavor and is very easy to take.  If you are looking for the extreme other end of the shopping spectrum with the maximum dose for the least cost, I would go here.  However if you like to read labels and select just what feels best for you then local health food stores like Elliott's is a good choice.

Reversing aging is a whole lifestyle paradigm shift.  It means eating only fresh wholesome real foods - predominantly non-starchy vegetables, healthy saturated, monounsaturated, and omega 3 fats, and clean proteins.  Reversing aging means living from your heart - connected to others and to your inner self.  It means taking life easy and appreciating each moment.  It means using your muscles and your mind to embrace the fullness of life.

Nature has provided us an abundance of life giving vital elements found in herbs, seeds, fruits, minerals, clean water, fresh air, and sunshine all to support the unfoldment of our potential.  Resveratrol is just one of those little miracles given to us by nature.  Use it with thanks.

Take care,

David

Resveratrol shows fat cell shrinking potential

A daily 150 milligram dose of resveratrol for 30 days showed a decrease number of large and very large fat cells in favor of more small fat cells.  Enzymes for breaking down fat were increased.  Of particular interest is that this relatively low dose of resveratrol over a long time had a much different result on the body than high doses for a short time.  The Goldilocks effect is in play here where just the right amount produces the results you want.  More is not better.

Low dose resveratrol cut bowel cancer in mice by 50%

Recently reported at a conference on resveratrol is that a small dose of resveratrol combined with a high fat diet reduced colon cancer 50%.  High doses of resveratrol did not have this effect.  This dose specific effect of resveratrol was echoed by many of the researchers at the conference.  Human trials are still to be done to see if the effect holds up in real world patients.

New Study Validates Anti-Aging Pathway in Human Cells

Conclusive evidence has shown that resveratrol activates a protein that promotes health and longevity in animals.  The protein is called SIRT 1 which revs up our cellular batteries giving us more energy to make repairs to be healthy.  Several drugs are currently being developed that act like resveratrol to treat and prevent diseases of aging in people.

Our address is  9725 Fair Oaks Blvd.
Finding the new location is very easy.  Coming from highway 50 up Sunrise Blvd, you turn left and go up a block.  We are on the right hand side - the building just past the Subway Sandwich shop.  If you are coming down Sunrise from the Mall area then just turn right on Fair Oaks Blvd and up a block on the right.

If you are coming from the Roseville area you could come down Sunrise Blvd, but that is a long trek.  It is probably shorter time wise to come down Auburn Blvd - San Juan Ave like you have been for the Sunset office, but instead of turning left at Sunset, keep going straight 3 more lights to Fair Oaks Blvd and turn left.  Go down 2 lights to New York Ave, go through the intersection, and immediately turn into the turn lane once the center divider ends.  We are on the left.
