Tai Chi classes
beginning soon

 Hi ,

We are winding up the final preparations to begin the Tai Chi Balance Training at the office.  Our instructor, Kathy, was at the office Friday moving through her Tai Chi routines to see just how many people will fit in the big room with her and still have a good amount of both room and personal attention.  It looks as though the classes will be limited to 4 or 5 people at a time - less than half the number per class at Kathy's dojo.  That means lots of one-on-one training and attention.

I will be building the last piece of equipment we need to do the balance testing this weekend.  That plus getting a new battery for my stopwatch and we will be set to start balance testing folks in preparation for the class.  Although I recommend testing for everyone, it is only required for patients on Medicare.  We will begin with a balance test, then re-test after the first 10 classes and then again after the second set of ten classes.  The first set of 10 classes is planned to be twice per week to facilitate learning the Tai Chi moves.  By the time you are ready for the second set of 10 classes you should be well familiar with the forms so that you can practice them at home between classes.

I have also designed a new type of Chiropractic adjustment that is performed standing and moving for correcting movement imbalances.  Everyone (with Medicare) will receive one of these adjustments just prior to your Tai Chi class.  We will bill Medicare directly for your adjustments and classes and you will be responsible for your co-payment of $7.20 per class.  I would prefer that you pay for 10 classes at a time up front for $70 and save $2 from the fee.  This $70 will cover you for 10 classes and 10 of the new Chiropractic balance adjustments prior to your class.

For those of you that are interested in the Tai Chi classes that are not seniors, there will be classes set up for you based on getting four of you per class to agree on a particular time.  The balance testing is not required (but recommended - it is only $30).  The classes will be $10 per class ($100 paid in advance for 10 sessions).  If you would like the new Chiropractic Balance adjusting prior to the class, that will only be $29 per adjustment.  It is designed to greatly enhance the muscle and balance learning that will take place with the Tai Chi.  It is a standing test of muscle balance in the eyes, skull, upper neck, shoulders, mid and lower back, pelvis, knees, and ankles.  Any imbalances are corrected with either Bio-magnetics or with the Activator.  This will get all the important weight bearing joint complexes running harmoniously.

The next two weeks will be spent testing your balance and scheduling classes.  Our expectation is that the classes themselves will be starting in the end of July or the beginning of August.  Please call the office (966-4714)to schedule your balance exam or email me with your phone number at david@fairoakshealth.com.  This way we can contact you with the times Kathy is available to teach as well as set you up with your exam.

One important note: the Tai Chi classes will be presented in three levels of difficulty, and which class you will be taking depends on your test scores.  This way everyone will be matched with others with the same ability (and stability) level.  Each class will be geared and taught to your ability level so that you get the maximum out of the class.

Special bonus:  At the end of each class will be a 5 minute lifestyle health tip presentation to teach you simple things you can do to upgrade your health.

So contact the office as soon as possible to schedule your balance testing.  Once we have the testing done we will be able to form classes based on your skill level.  966-4714  or email me at david@fairoakshealth.com.

Take care of yourself.

Good Journey,

David

Dr Dave's Candy Mix Recipe:

Chocolate Taffy

Mix 1 heaping cup of Candy Mix with ¼ cup water in a deep saucepan.  Cook over medium high heat stirring constantly until boiling.  Boil for 1 minute then turn off the heat.  Add extra vanilla at this time if you like a strong vanilla taste.
Check the temperature with your candy thermometer.  When it gets down to 150 degrees, add 8 ounces of unsweetened chocolate discs (or 8 ounces of unsweetened baking chocolate) and mix until chocolate is melted and well blended.  This may now be poured into a buttered shallow pan for cooling and cutting into individual pieces or you may mix a couple cups of Rice Chex mix, dried fruit, or nuts into the chocolate mix first before turning it out into a shallow pan for cooling, cutting, and wrapping into individual pieces. Be aware that this one batch of candies contains about 200 grams of fiber.  Your digestion is probably only used to 10 to 20 grams of fiber per day at best.  So even though this is low carb and no sugar, don't eat too many pieces of this candy per day until your system gets used to the increased fiber levels.

Enjoy!
